A little bit kooky & quirky. Always fun and looking on the bright side even if it gets ridiculous!

The Trade

A couple of years ago I was travelling in Nova Scotia and purchased a 'Harem' rug hooking kit designed by Christine Little at Encompassing Designs in Mahone Bay.  The finished size is 36x18 and it would take hours & hours, days & days, weeks & weeks, months & months to finish.   Was I up for the task???!!     no.

So I asked my talented sister if she would consider a trade.  A big 'Bubble Tree' painting in her choice of colours in trade for her rug hooking labour.  Thankfully she said yes.  Here are the results.  I absolutely love my hooked rug and am so thankful I have a sister who is WAY more patient than me.

The painting is hanging in her living room.  I have to figure out how to finish 'The Harem' and when I do it will hang on a big wall in my living room with other interesting stuff I've collected.  Hopefully I can post a photo of that soon - well soonish, well within the next year let's say.

Sea Kings

I reworked a silly painting I did a while ago and made it even sillier - is that a word?

Yes, the fish have crowns.  After completing a request for a commission for a yellow bird 'Line of Royalty' painting, I'm re-visiting that whole idea of animals wearing crowns.  Crazy idea.

I wanted to show that I actually have been painting, the knitting addiction has abated - somewhat.  The colours in this photo are rather muted.  In reality the painting is full of rich teals and water blues and greens.  Much more saturated than this photo.  Also, the gold/copper/silver leaf crowns never photograph well.  But you get the idea.  It's more contemporary fun from the studio of doo wadda wadda art.

'Ice Gold' Bubble Tree

She's a beauty!  I had to use many parts of my brain for this one.  I wanted to get a perfect balance between cool colours (silver, blue, grey) and warm colours (gold, cream, beige) and keep the essence of the whole painting quite light and fresh.

Warm Welcome

Hot off the presses this Bubble Tree is warm and cozy and oozing with caramels and golds. There are about 8-10 translucent layers on the textured background.  All come together to form a depth full of rich gold and toffee colours.
This acrylic painting has smatterings of gold leaf very subtly leading the eye around the canvas in a circular direction.
