A little bit kooky & quirky. Always fun and looking on the bright side even if it gets ridiculous!

Olive Garden

These bales of hay look a wee bit like very large olives.  OK.  Let's go with that.

Polka Dot Mirror

In continuing to de-traditionalize my too traditional house, I tackled a small alcove in my dining room.
Step 1:  Bought a $50 mirror from Home Sense.
Step 2:  Taped then painted black the white edges and small edge around the perimeter & then dragged a jagged tool through the paint while it was still wet to break up the black.
Step 3:  Used various sizes of circle & line stencils cut from cereal box cardboard & a stencil brush to paint on polk dots & stripes.
Step 4:  Varnish in gloss (yet to be done)

I forgot to take a photo of the original white mirror before I started.  In this photo the sides and small edge around the perimeter are already painted black & some of the polka dots have been painted.

The light white is the original colour of the mirror.
The painted black edge of the originally white mirror.

De-traditionalization of this nook is complete!

Which Came 1st?

Which came 1st?  The "Tobogganeer" family or the real family?  A client's family in Ontario decided to re-create a commissioned piece received by the mom for Christmas this year.  What a great idea!  Brilliant!

Scoundrels!

These 'Freewheelers' are a little bit, um. . . scruffier than my usual rather innocent cyclists.  These guys have more than a few rough edges after being out on the town.  Maybe the cigar was too much?

I Get It!

I get it.  I really do!  After all, I'm in the same boat.  Art buyers have to make choices.  Sometimes decisions between paying the same price for a necessity and a piece of art they really love.  Lot's of people love art, but it's just not a necessity to them.  So that's why I am always so grateful, honoured & tickled pink when someone chooses to put their hard earned  money towards purchasing a piece of art I have made.  You know who you are out there.  Thanks so much!

Larger Sized Freewheelers

Here's a custom "Freewheeler" made in the new larger size 8x10 matted to 11x14.  The bigger size painting allows for more personal stuff to be included.  The buyer of this one gave it to her husband for his 60th birthday.  Looks like he is a rather active kind of guy.

This One is a Beauty

I just completed and hung a commissioned Bubble Tree for clients.  After consulting with them on the overall feeling they desired for the piece as well as their preferred size and colour, I think the completed painting is beautiful.  I titled it after the sentiment of the painting which also happens to correspond to the new owners' charm and grace.

Abstract Circles

While the 1st of the new abstract circle paintings had more pink in it, this 2nd painting is more on the blue side of things with just a dab or two of silver leaf peeking out.

New Larger Sized Freewheelers

I've completed several new larger size Freewheelers.  Here are 2.  They're 8x10 matted to 11x14 so would fit into that size frame.  As they are ink and watercolour, the paintings do need to be under glass for protection.   It's the same whimsy, just bigger!  See my website ConnieChristensen.ca for more images.

More Sandrine Pelissier Flowers

Can you see the flowers in the 1st photos before I negative painted around them as shown in the 2nd photos?
1st one is done on clayboard which I really liked.  Very smooth and good for use with ink.
2nd one is done on Yupo paper paper - another new thing for me.

Sandrine Pelissier Workshop

I am fresh off a 2 day workshop with Sandrine Pelissier hosted by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FDA). It was so much fun.  Using ink, acrylics, all sorts of drawing implements and a negative painting technique we created several floral paintings.
This 1 was painted on canvas board.  You can probably see the weave.  I'll post 2 more paintings in the next few days which were painted on different, smoother surfaces.
