A little bit kooky & quirky. Always fun and looking on the bright side even if it gets ridiculous!

There's not a lot  of detail here, but most people instantly see tulips.  The pink and green colour combo has been around for ages.  I've always loved it, but never really used it because of people's perception of pink being too "feminine" for them.  Thankfully, we are moving away from that perception and we see pink in home decoration AND in clothing because everybody looks good in pink!  A very flattering colour.

Every day I enjoy looking at this teensy little vase I bought from Mud, Sweat and Tears http://mudsweatandtears.ca/ .  They are doing their best during covid and I was one of the lucky ones to  find them near Sorrento, BC at their studio when it was open this summer.  Go to their website to see more "crystalline glazed" pottery.  There are some BIG vases which are beautiful.  But I'm a little partial to the mini version I see everyday in my office.

Sooo...It's been a while.  Two years actually.  But, I'm back, so let's see what happens.
I've tried to take all painting pressures off - the real ones, but mostly the ones in my busy head.
I love this 30"x30" painting of yellow tulips.  I used a huge brush and tried to keep most of the brushstrokes visible.  It looks like a simple painting, but those big brush strokes make it interesting.  Very fresh and contemporary I think.
The background appears black in the photo, but it's really a very, very dark blue - classy!

Florals

I posted several images of this painting in progress on instagram doowaddawaddaart and Twitter ConnieDooWadda .  On August 17th I thought I was close to being finished, but then I ended up adding a whole bunch of stuff.  It's done now.

"Vintage Escape Artists"

Here's another ink and acrylic on canvas piece.  It's titled 'Vintage Escape Artists' because it has a sort of old fashioned sense about it.  It looks like the yellow poppies have successfully executed a breakout from the confines of the garden on the other side of that fence.

These are days 16 - 20 of my Paintings-A-Day.  They are still taking a big chunk out of my day with time spent doing 'dress rehearsals' which help me finalize a good composition.  Throughout my day, I am also constantly thinking/looking for the next appealing subject.  It's sounds easier than it is.  Sure, I might think painting a calculator or my printer is appealing, but does anyone else?

I've recently put a few on my etsy shop, so if you like any of these or the previous days' paintings, check out: Etsy - doo wadda wadda art-connie christensen

The Next 5 Paintings-A-Day

'Yellow Poppies' - ink & watercolour on paper

'Tattered Book, Tired Eyes' - ink, graphite & watercolour on paper

'Chickadee-dee-dee' - ink & watercolour on paper

'Spoodles' - ink, graphite & watercolour on paper

'Winter Soldiers' - ink & watercolour on paper

Here are the next 5 paintings for my commitment to sketch-a-day for 30 days.  They're more like paintings than sketches and each is taking way more time than I anticipated when I made the commitment.  But I just can't send something out into internet land that is too unfinished (in my mind).  Unexpectedly and unfortunately, they seem to be highlighting a little too much of my control issues - eek!

On to the next 5 days!

Calgary Flood

This past Thursday, June 20 Calgary, Alberta was hit by the biggest flood in it's history.  Seeing rushing river water in downtown Calgary was surreal and a hush fell over the city. We are just now starting to dig out.  Photos of flood

Thankfully, Calgary is known as 'The Spirit of the West' and good deeds, volunteering, donating and digging in is nothing new.  When a call went out today for 1000 volunteers - more than 7000 showed.  Everyone is itching to help.

But hit even harder than Calgary was the small town south of us called High River.  Yes, really-High River.  The RCMP and military are still there and no one else is allowed in.  The whole town is under mandatory evacuation.  The photos show devastation.  While Calgary is cleaning up, High River is still under several feet of water - no electricity, water, gas or sewer.  It may be weeks before residents go back.  Photos of High River flood

This painting was to go into a show at Evanescence Gallery in High River in July.  The gallery owners do not yet know if there is a gallery to go back to.
